• We have now extended the deadline for the first selection test until 5 January 2025 in order to give more learners the opportunity to still write the test.

We are now starting the selection process for the 2025 International Mathematics Competition SA teams. The first selection test will available to be written at home from 1 November 2024 and will be open until 30 November 2024. This first selection test can be written without invigilation and hence learners can write it at their own convenience. However please note, selection tests 2 and 3, which are to be written in January and February 2025 will be written under invigilation and will therefore be weighted more in the selection process. Furthermore, there are also a series of assignments that can be completed and submitted as part of the team selection process. We are in the process of updating this website for 2025 and hence you will still see the old 2024 information below while we are busy updating.

Congratulations to the top performers. Below you will find the lists of the top 16 learners in Junior Secondary as well as Upper Primary. These learners have qualified for South African places for the IMC teams. These learners should be honoured for their achievement and we congratulate them heartily. However, please note that the final teams might not be representative of these two lists due to the very expensive cost of the India trip as well as other obstacles.

JIMCOBSA was launched at the start of 2021 to facilitate the national training and selection of teams to represent South Africa at the International Mathematics Competition for primary school and high school learners. Although there were also attempts earlier at selecting and training teams at a national level, the first national training only occurred with the creation of JIMCOBSA. However, in 2019 two primary school teams and two high school teams were selected as the first ever national teams (the other teams were regional teams as have also been the case with teams before 2019). The hope is that the creation of JIMCOBSA will not only nationalize selection and standardize training across the country, but will also lead to improved training and better results.
