This course is for grade 4 to grade 10 learners, who wish to get preparation through online training classes, before writing the 2025 IMAS (International Mathematics Assessments for Schools) contest at the end of January. This course is a follow-up to the course taught in January 2024. The past papers from 2011 to 2016 were discussed during the January 2024 course, while the January 2025 course will discuss and focus the past papers from 2017 to 2022.
During the preparation classes, the presenter will work through past papers as well as general strategies that can be implemented. The presenter will not only discuss problem solving strategies but also time-management strategies useful when taking the actual contest.
Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions and have those questions answered. All classes will be recorded so that participants are able to watch videos of missed classes afterwards. However, participants are encouraged to join the live sessions in order to be able to have their questions answered or be able to ask the presenter to go slower, repeat an explanation or add more details to the explanation.
We encourage participants to make full use of this course in order to improve their performance on the IMAS papers and hence also their chances to be selected for the teams to represent South Africa at the International Mathematics Competition (IMC). The IMC is taking place towards the end of July 2025.
This course is not publicly accessible and requires enrolment and payment. Enrolment and payment for this course must be done on the Admin Portal. The fee for this course of 6 classes running in January 2025 is R1200. However, please note that although the classes run in January, the recordings of all the classes and materials will still be available until at least 31 March 2025. Hence learners may still enrol for this course after January even if it is to just make use of the material and video recordings.
